Feng Shui Indoor Wind Chimes to Sooth the Soul...

Feng shui is an ancient Asian art of placement;
the term means "wind-water" and refers
to the art of harmonizing with the environment.
Wind chimes are feng shui remedies
that help to balance existing chi.
They work with feng
-- wind energy --
to redirect or enhance chi.
A wind chime hung by a back door that is directly
in line with the front door will prevent
all the good chi from rushing right through
and out of your house.
Wind chimes near an open window keep energy
circulating when you are away all day.

Thick pottery shard pieces cut and tumbled by
Emily Cohen married to some of her hand cut
red plexi-glass discs, semi-precious stars and
my own garden bamboo.

Mel the Bell has been transformed into an indoor
Feng Shui chime with a nice red tongue clapper.
African trade beads and EMILY pot shards
form the bell cord.

My long tongued Giraffe bell of stoneware
clay has, in addition to it's clapper legs, beaded
strands to lightly strike the bell body in a moving
breeze...
The gently tinkling music of wind chimes in
a soft breeze is meant to relax all within earshot.
Hang your wind chimes indoors,
where they will amplify the good energy of your
home and contribute melodic interludes
as an occasional draft stirs them.
Beach glass, pottery plate shards, metal beads,
found objects, bamboo or wood all make musical
and ornamental indoor wind chimes.

This is my IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Wind Chime; by reading where all the
parts came from, you can see why!

It Must Have a PAST...

The ceramic pot shards used to make these
reversible fun-to-wear pendant necklaces
had another life entirely before this one...

The thick red glass hand-cut heart hangie
on this piece was found sunning in the sand...

Beach glass finds, Plate & Pot Shards...

If you plan to flaunt it and wear it
be sure it has a PAST!

Pottery & Plate Shards

 July 24th 2021 from Noon - 4PM,
Blue Santa Beads & Boutique, Media, PA
will host "The Allure of Porcelain Blue'
a WORSHOP by Barbara Hanselman
on upcycling Vintage plate shards
into Art-to-Wear...

The pot shards in these first four pictures
are from ceramic plates, pots & trays which met
untimely mishaps in their functional existence...

Their breakage in no way detracts from their
appeal to be worn; the creators' energy shines
through their tragedies...

Their continuance is credited to the craft artists
who saw their potential to become even more
than they once were...

Vintage Blue & White Shards from English
Johnson Brothers, Coaching Scene Plates,
will be featured at the Blue Santa event

As well as assorted Ceramic Clay Shards from
area Clay Artists. All of these shards spoke to
Emily Cohen and Barbara Hanselman, insisting
on the validity of their continued existence...

We're sure they will speak to you as well!
Barbara is also offering Workshop participants
the chance to transform their own broken & chipped
heirloom dishes into finished shards they can use
to create that special piece to wear...

Simply bring your sized plate shards to the shop
before the 4th of July with an indication on them
as to where you want holes drilled in them.

These raw plate shards ARE QUITE SHARP
so handle them carefully. The easiest way to
break them into small enough raw shards to use
as jewelry components is to place them in a
folded towel and whack them with a hammer.

Notice that shards don't have to match, only
complement each other to be used as earrings.

This pair was made from pot shards which had
patterns on each side, making them reversible!

Windchimes for the Deck & Garden

This is the latest three strand strung windchime I have
made for showing at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

These two which are totally copper wired together,
are both at the Gallery on Park, Swarthmore. PA
but not for long...!

The wired ones take twice as long to make but are well
worth it when completed.

These two made during the Pandemic both
feature Coke bottle rings cut and tumbled smooth
by Emily Cohen, Catfish Studio.

These are also on their way to the Flower Show
Booth 123, Marcia Reiver Ceramics.

Ancient Roman Blue Glass Bangles...

...can lead to so many things...
Accents on earrings made from hammered copper ovals
and vintage blue and white plate shards, for example!

The blue Roman glass didn't make it into this pair
but the Karen Sacks tiny pottery shards
make a lasting impression on their own.

These plate shards were from a European collectible dish
and sent to me by Emily Cohen, all ready to go -
The ancient Roman Blue glass bangles
 make the perfect companion here,

As well as with these reversible scroddled ceramic discs
in their own subtle blue hues...

These discs make a statement of their own
as they dangle from simple brushed copper rings!

REVERSIBLE Clay Sculptural Earrings

I really love seeing earrings which look good both
coming and going...

They can be worn either way as well by simply
inserting them in the ear lobe front to back...
or back to front!

The examples here are all made from stoneware clay,
unglazed and open to accept aromatherapy oils...

The sculptural aspect just happened when I discovered
leftover clay pieces on my work table.

They were so interesting I couldn't throw them away...

So this is what they became!
